  • What is the “Beyond Zero Health Awards”?

The Beyond Zero Health Awards is an award ceremony that recognizes nurses offering nursing services at a public facility at the level (2) dispensary or level (3) health centre in the 47 counties in Kenya. It will also recognise nurse-led initiatives at any of the levels 2-5 in the public health facilities in Kenya.

  1. How can I apply for the awards?

All Applications are only done online through the Beyond Zero Summit website www.summit.beyondzero.or.ke

  1. What are the categories for the Beyond Zero Health Award? Who is eligible for these awards?
  • Nurse Practitioner Award – Open to nurses working in Level 2 dispensary or level 3 Health Centres. Level 4, 5 & 6 nurses are not eligible to apply.

To be applied by individual nurses who must be licensed to practice in that County/ facility.

  • Nurse Led Initiative or Project or Program – Open to nurses working in Level 2, 3, 4 & 5 facilities. Level 6 nurses are not eligible to apply.

To be applied by the nurse leader who must be licensed to practice in that County/facility.

  1. What are the attributes being assessed in the Nurse Practitioner Award?

This award is assessed using personal and professional attributes of the individual nurse applying for the award.

  • Personal attributes: Speaks well and is easy-to understand, works well with others, Kind and considerate, always thinks about the patient’s needs and beliefs, calm and encouraging
  • Professional attributes: Leadership and gives guidance, Honest and truthful, qualified and experienced, Role model, and always looks for opportunities to learn more.
  1. What are the attributes being assessed in the Nurse Led Initiative or Project or Program?

This award is assessed based on the 8 characteristics of Best practices in the Kenya Health Sector Criteria (JICA report 2014/2015) namely; productive with good organization, useful and adds value to the initiative, fair and just in providing services, offers important services to the community, supported by leaders and management, can be copied in other facilities, the project is continuous and practical, as well as, used creativity to solve a challenge facing the facility/community.

  1. What is a project in the Nurse led team initiative/Project team Award?

A project refers to any nursing work or health service that has been implemented and has shown to work with good results while serving patients and you want to share for others to learn from. It may be at any department in the health facility.

  1. How many applications can one apply in one health facility?

All applications are open and any individual nurse can apply for one or both of the two Awards. Multiple applications from a facility are accepted and assessed individually for its merit, but applicants need to be different. A facility or one department in a facility or several departments can apply from a facility and are acceptable.

  1. Where can I find more information about each award category?

  1. Who qualifies from a public facility where staff are government and partner supported?

Facilities with staff from several partners; government/county nurses can apply for Nurse practitioner awards individually. Partner supported nurses do not qualify to apply.

The Nurse-led initiative or project team award can be applied for by government/county Nurses and can add team members to include other cadres of staff or nurses including partner supported nurses and staff.

  1. Can I apply for the awards if my Practice License is not valid or current?

Only applicants with valid practicing licenses will be considered for the award.

  1. Can I apply if I have changed cadres and currently don’t work as a nurse?

Only applicants with valid practicing licenses will be considered for the award.

  1. Can I print, fill and upload the application form? Is there any other application method?

All applications must be done online at www.application.beyondzero.or.ke

  1. How do I edit or change my submission?

Applicants can log in, review and update their applications before submission. Once submitted, it cannot be revised.

  1. Why are nurses being awarded, not doctors or other frontline workers?

The Beyond Zero Awards that started in 2017 recognizes different categories of people contributing to strengthening Kenya’s health service delivery.

  1. What is the age limit for applicants?

There is no age limit for application.

  1. When is the deadline for applications?

The deadline to apply is July 30th, 2021

  1. How will I be notified if I am successful or not?

Successful applicants will receive an email from Beyond Zero.

  1. How will the selection process take place?

Beyond Zero Health Awards is an inclusive and rigorous process involving a comprehensive team of county and national representatives to vet all applications.

  1. What are the awards to be received by the finalists?

The award prizes will be communicated during the awards ceremony.

  1. Why is it only government facilities being recognized?

The Beyond Zero Awards is celebrating the progress and success in Quality Improvement. This year, built on the Initiative’s commitment to contribute towards attainment of Universal Health Coverage in Kenya and Big Four Agenda, the Beyond Zero 2021 Summit will award nurses working with public, primary health care level two (dispensaries) and level three (health centres).
